There Ain’t Nothing to It But to Do It!

How many times have you seen the coaches or competitors at Invictus perform complex movements with ease? As you watch your fellow Invicti gracefully walk on their hands or perform bar muscle-ups, do you ever catch yourself saying “I wish I could do that…”?
The best way to master a movement that you find challenging is to just do it. It’s that simple. Let me give you an example…
Invicti: Coach, I want to get better at handstand walks. I watch YouTube videos, practice handstands against a wall, and I always challenge myself when doing overhead presses. Why can’t I walk on my hands?
Coach: When was the last time you tried to walk on your hands?
Invicti: That one day where Part “A” of the workout was 15-20min. of gymnastics skills…..(3 months ago).
You can replace handstand walks with any movement of your choice: butterfly pull-ups, muscle-ups, ring dips, pistol squats, etc. The answer is the same – there ain’t nothin’ to it but to do it people! Every time you walk in the gym, set a small goal for yourself: you can either arrive early or stay late, but you must complete a few reps of a movement you want to perfect, every time you come to the gym. You should continue to practice progressions, analyze the movement, and ask the Coaches for tips, but at the end of the day, all that matters is that you tried.
